      s The No.3 steam turbine in Hong-Wan Gas Turbine Power Station in Zhuhai was manufactured by Alsthom, France. This steam turbine of Model TC363 FV140 has a rated power generation capacity of 34.1 MW and a rated speed of 3000 rpm. After the unit was put into operation in 1993, the horizontal vibration of the steam-turbine inlet bearing increased gradually to the alarm value, namely 6.25 mm/s, ca. every third year. In this presentation, reasons for the excessive horizontal vibration of the steam-turbine inlet bearing were analyzed. It was concluded that the gap between the up-bearing-metal of the inlet bearing and the shaft of the turbine was too large and the two longitudinal pins beneath the inlet bearing box were damaged seriously, which led to the excessive horizontal vibration of the inlet bearing. This problem was finally solved by replacing the original longitudinal pins and inlet bearing by two standard longitudinal pins and an appropriate inlet bearing.
