| Incineration of municipal solid refuse for the purpose of reducing the waste volume is not a new technology. The solid waste incineration technology, which has been applied extensively in industrialized countries for many years, has proved to be adequate and very effective for the disposal of municipal waste. By comparison, the Chinese manufacturers are getting a start in the design and production of municipal waste incinerators. Tremendous gaps need to be filled in between the inland and foreign units in respects of technological innovation, design and manufacture. It is thus of importance for the inland manufacturers to learn the change and development of municipal waste incineration technologies, the design and manufacture of state-of-the-art incineration facilities and their applications in the industrialized world. In this presentation, an overview was given on the course of change and development of municipal waste incineration technologies. In detail were depicted primary types of incineration technologies and corresponding installations developed from the latter half of the 19th century on. Distinguishing features of those technologies and facilities, in particular their firing systems, were discussed. On the basis of this, suggestions on the research and development of municipal waste incineration technologies in China were offered. |
